2016 was a great year for the jobs market. We saw hiring come in at a rapid pace, wages increase and the unemployment rate go down. And we have also seen more employers become more confident in what the future holds. We are confident that 2017 will be another year of job growth in this country.
So at Finish Line Staffing, we see a few trends in hiring that we believe will happen in 2017.
One item we see is that in general, there are more job openings than hiring recently. So what does that mean? It means that the candidate experience will have to improve. It means more communication on the hiring process, a better screening process and a thorough introduction into the company culture. In short, you may be competing for candidates.
As far as the technology sector, security skills will become a must have. It’s no secret that security in this day and age has become a top priority so those looking for positions in technology will have to prove they have more than a working knowledge of the latest in security and privacy when it comes to their position.
We also believe that referrals will play a huge role in securing the right candidates. That’s where the importance of having a great recruiter by your side comes in. A professional recruiter will have a network of candidates that they keep in touch with. They know what these candidates are looking for and when the right opportunity comes up, they can create that referral.
And as the job market continues to be hot, employee experience will be key. Everything from company culture, advancement opportunities to the chance make more of a difference at the decision table. These are the items that help you find that next great hire and keep that team member happy.
